I woke up to a bit of a panic inducing reminder this morning.
I got up and checked my phone as usual and to my surprise I had an e-mail from Singapore Airlines inviting me to check into my flight to Manila on Wednesday. Two days time.
Oh Shi.....
You see about four months ago I made the decision to race at 70.3 Western Sydney rather than Challenge Phuket. As a result of that decision I changed my booking with Singapore Airlines from flying to Phuket to instead flying to my first planned race of 2016, 70.3 Subic Bay. I then promptly forgot about that booking and dove headfirst into the road and tore my AC ligament.
Needless to say that until this morning the flight remained forgotten about.
I had a rather panicked morning until I was able to get hold of Singapore Airlines. I spent the morning madly looking at races for the second half of 2016 that I could transfer the ticket too, but in the end I was able to get a refund instead which was a win. The upside of it all though is that I am now very excited about the second half of 2016. Looks like some great races coming up in Asia later this year.
Phew.
Besides panicking, I also had a great training session on the Kickr. The session this morning was a good reminder that sometimes it is worth persevering. Training last week was nicely solid, nothing out of the world, just a steady trickle of exercise. However, while last week's training wasn't much, I am coming from a fairly low base and so I am feeling a little fatigued. This morning I was tempted to give the tired legs a rest, however, I am also mindful that if I have surgery again this week I won't be able to do exercise for around 10 days. I am keen to make hay while the sun shines.
I sure am glad I stuck with it though. The bike session this morning was the first glimmer of returning form that I have seen. A good jump in power over last week's bike sessions for the same heart rate. A power level that is much closer to the norm. It felt good and strong too. A nice step in the right direction.
Speaking of surgery this week. I won't find out until Wednesday whether or not my surgery is this week or next or sometime later. I rang Dr Hewitt this morning and he will give me a call on Wednesday to let me know. I suspect it will depend on how many urgent cases he has to deal with this week as to whether or not he can fit me in. Fair enough. As much as I would like to get this plate out, it isn't getting in the way much at the moment so I can wait if I have too.
Sooner rather than later would be nice though.
