Number 3

Nice quiet Sunday today, just a day of pottering around after a hot day of socialising yesterday.

This morning I logged the latest session in my return to running, knocking out a massive 8km. Bringing my weekly total up to three sessions for a total of  21km or so. Not a lot, but it has to start somewhere. The session this morning was another bit longer and a another bit quicker than the run I had on Thursday. Fitness levels are still a thing of terror, with the run this morning taking a lot out of me, but things are slowly improving. Whilst the heart rate required for today's run was still very high, it felt just a little bit more like running, with a slight return of form.

The trick for me is going to be not pushing too hard too quickly. It is something that I always struggle with, and this return to fitness is no different. Today's 8km run felt like it was still within my limits in terms of distance, but the intensity is not sustainable, I really need to let myself relax and run a bit slower. The fitness and speed will return in good time, I don't need to force it.

Going into next week I am really going to have to try and stick to the 10% increase in volume per week rule. Or something like it anyway. I think I would be comfortable running more than 24km next week, but I guess the point is that I have to try keep it within reason.

Then again I really hope I am having surgery on Thursday this week, which would put any training plans on hold for a little while. The break in training is one that I would be more than happy to have.
