Today I finally got to do some exercise again.
Yesterday Dr Hewitt gave me permission to exercise again and in my previous post I had mentioned my hope of doing so this morning. Well, it took me a little while to get on the Kickr but I managed it and so I officially managed to train again.
The session was far from remarkable. Going in my plan was to take it easy, but in the end I suspect I would have had to take it easy whether I wanted to or not. Not far into the session my heart rate was quiet high and I really had no choice but to reign the effort right in and cruise through the rest.
Not all that surprising really. I haven't been on the bike for a while so there is definitely a fitness deficit, plus my body is still a bit beaten up from surgery, antibiotics etc. I am not going to be expecting much until after my final surgery to remove the plate. Still, I am hopeful that if I can keep getting on the trainer consistently then fitness will start to return. That was really what this morning was about, taking the first step in a long road back to race fitness.
Tomorrow, a second step.
