Done for now

Back home again now. Surgery done, dressings changed, prescriptions filled. Nothing to see here.

Now comes the waiting.

This time it really will be waiting. No training for 10 days is the instruction. I have to keep this wound clean as it heals, no sweating etc, which could be interesting over the next 5 days as tempetatures will be sitting around 40 degrees. The intention is to try and avoid reinfection.

Resting for the next 10 days is okay, I can live with that. I am very much in the 'whatever it takes' stage of this recovery. No overdoing it, testing limits or pushing boundaries. Just rest and healing until this is sorted.

You may have noticed that I mentioned reinfection above. Last night I said that the tests hadn't picked up any sign of infection. That is still the case, however, the Doctors are treating it as an infection and that is still the most likely cause. According to Dr Hewitt the tests for infection aren't fool proof, just because they didn't pick it up, doesn't mean it wasn't there.

As a result I now have a massive bag of antibiotics. The Doctors really aren't taking any chances, they have cleaned the wound out, instructed me to keep it clean and dry and have given me enough antibiotics to last until early March, which is when the plate comes out. The plan is to bombard it until it is time to remove the plate. Not give an infection a chance to get a foot hold again. If it does then the plate will have to come out. At this point removing the plate wouldn't be the end of the world, but it isn't ideal either.

With trainng not an option this blog could become a bit dull(er?). However, I will try and avoid that. I am thinking it might be time to write a few more reviews. We just aquired a nifty bit of new Garmin technology that is crying out for a review. Plus there are some other things that could do with it. I have also been fiddling with the appearance of the blog, as you may have noticed. The red borders are just an experiment for now, just to see how I like it. So far the feedback (from my wife) is that it is no good, but I will leave it for a little while and see if it grows on me. I will see if inspiration strikes for some other blog topics.

Suggestions welcome.
