Well here I am, in hospital again. I make these gowns looks good.
If I had to make a guess I would say the surgery went well. I haven't really had anyone tell me that, but I haven't had anyone tell me the opposite either, so I am happy to make that assumption. I will get confirmation of that once I have a chat to the surgeon in the morning. All indications are that it went smoothly and to plan though. Nice.
One thing is for sure, this surgery took a lot less out of me than the operation to have the plate put in. That is to be expected since today's operation was a lot less invasive and generally less full on. Still it is welcome. Last time around I was still fairly out of it for most of the day, whereas this time around I was up and about pretty much straight out of recovery.
The pain levels have been on an entirely different scale too. I haven't needed pain medication at all this time around which is great.
All up it has been smooth sailing so far. Hopefully the next few days are the same and the swelling that I have been getting is sorted out once and for all.
On the topic of the swelling, the other bit of interesting information that I got today is that apparently there is no sign of infection in the wound. Preliminary testing of the samples taken on Tuesday have come up clean. As I mentioned the other day, one of the reasons I am in here is because it was concluded that I must have some sort of infection. More samples were taken today from the plate, so these may turn up something, but so far the indications are that nothing is infected. Really that is good news, since an infection can spell bad news for any sort of surgical recovery, but particularly when plates etc are inserted. It does raise the question though of what is causing this swelling if it isn't an infection. That is a question I am looking forward to asking tomorrow.
Till then though I have some reading to do and some sleeping to do.
