As I said yesterday it was back on the trainer this morning for me.
With the Kickr session yesterday going to well I was keen to see if I could replicate it this morning. Nicely enough I think I did.
One thing I really like about the Kickr is the precise level of control that it gives you over your exertion. That means that if yesterday was easy, today you catch notch the effort up by 2% or 4.5% or whatever you like. You really have that much control. I find that it makes it a great tool for incremental gains. You keep pushing it up by 1% here, 2% there and before you know it you find your average power has gained 10 Watts.
The flip side of that is that it can be very hard to resist the temptation to creep the resistance up just a little bit.
That is what this morning was.
Not that this morning's session was over the top, but it was possibly a little bit more intense than it should have been, with a higher average heart rate than yesterday. On the plus side though my average power output also made a corresponding step up. In fact I am quite happy with the intensity level, given I got equivalent gains in power for my efforts. Plus, as I said, the heart rate wasn't off the chart. Just a slightly more solid session than I had planned intended.
Running in the morning, and I have to say that I am just a little bit keen. Admittedly my run on Monday was hardly a shining beacon of running ability, but I quite enjoyed myself and I have loving the fact that I can get out and run again. I can't believe I just wrote that, but I genuinely am. Plus the fact that I have pulled up from the session with no ill effects to my shoulder means that I can go into a run tomorrow just a little less worried about it.
Actually I am tempted to run tonight and ride again in the morning, but at this stage not doing to much is very important and so I will be sticking to one session a day until after I get my plate out.
Slowly and surely is the key at this stage.
One week until the plate comes out. Not that I am counting.
