Routine return

Back online.

The last few days have been really good ones. We all had a great time relaxing up in Guilderton, hanging out with family, mucking around in boats, swimming pretty much all the time. The whole family, but especially the kids had a ball. A really good couple of days. No training at all, but that was not really an issue, you tend to be so active up there that you collapse into bed exhausted at the end of each day anyway. Certainly on Thursday I was in bed by 8:00pm. The days away was followed up by a really nice relaxing day at home today celebrating my wife's birthday. As I said, a really good four days or so.

The break was some wonderful R&R, but it presents an interesting issue with respect to training. Even though we were only up there for a few days, it is taking a big mental effort to get my brain back into gear for training. Even working up the energy to do this blog entry was a bit of an effort. My brain has been out of the triathlon groove for a little while now and so getting back on track is proving a little tough today. Still it has to be done, it might just be a sport but it is one that I have no intention of giving it up quite yet and so doing some maintenance training is critical.

Tomorrow the plan is for that maintenance training to be on the Kickr. My shoulder is still a bit sore, just were it is still healing up. Movement etc in the shoulder is really good, but I am not sure it is quite up to the jolting that goes with running yet and I would like to give it a bit longer before putting it back in the pool. That really just leaves me with the trainer.

I am quite keen to work my way back into normal(ish) training again this week and so that will be my goal. I am not planning on jumping straight back into full training with both feet. That is a good way to get injured. Well more injured. But hopefully if I start the week out slow, by the end of the week the routine will be looking more normal. It will all depend on how my shoulder stands up to the training as it gets more solid.

Next week is effectively the beginning of 2016 for me. Obviously that was really last week, but between New Years, a short week, the interrupted training, a trip away etc, it didn't really feel like a proper week. This week I will be back at work for real and hopefully training will be getting back to normal too. It many ways it will be nice to get back into a proper routine, doing so will be a bit of a motivational effort, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Starting tomorrow.
