Holey not Holy

Today I had that uncomfortable moment where you realise that you have an extra hole in your body.

I had to change the dressing from where Dr Hewitt removed some of my stitches yesterday. I knew he had cut some stuff out, but I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I wasn't really expecting there to be a neat little hole in my shoulder, a few millimeters in diameter, disapearing into my body. It wasn't that bad, just a little confronting, especially when I had to pull out the gauze that had been stuffed into it. I am not a particuarly blood and guts kind of guy. I like to think I am, big and tough, do what is necessary, but countless times of feeling a little 'funny' when confronted with a bit of gore has convinced me otherwise. Anyway, in the end I manned up as necessary and cleaned up my tiny wound. Let the manly chest thumping commence.

Given the minor medical procedure I had yesterday and the fact that I was feeling a little bit sore this morning, I took it easy today. I was going to stay in bed once my alarm went off since I was tired and I thought I had a good excuse. But in the end I got up and went for a walk. Hill repeats again. Last time I did the hill repeats I incorporated a bit of jogging, but not today, the shoulder is not quite up for the jolting that comes with running yet. Give it a couple more days and it should be good to go, but not quite yet.

Tomorrow it will be trainer time for me again. I would really like to be on the road, but like jogging, the shoulder just isn't quite up to that yet. Really all my training is in a holding pattern until the shoulder is a little less sore. Hopefully back on track next week.

For the rest of this week though I will be taking it fairly easy, starting tomorrow after my trainer session. After I am done on the trainer we are all heading up to Guilderton for the weekend. I mention this because I probably won't be online during this time. Internet is possible up at a Guilderton, but it usually is more hassle than it is worth. So chances are I won't be posting until I am back in town on Sunday.

Should be a good trip though, it may present some interesting training opportunities, but that isn't really the main focus. The main point is just a bit of rest, relaxation and recovery with the family. Looking forward to it.
