Summer Holidays

A nice day after the day after Christmas today. A very typical Australia Christmas sort of day in fact. Today was on the warm side in Perth, 36 degrees. Not off the chart scorching, but warm enough to make you wish you were cooler.

Since we had a typical Summer day, we decided to do the typical Australia Summer thing and head to the beach with most of the extended family. In this case the beach was the River as opposed to the Ocean, but there was cold water and crevice filling sand and so the end result was similar. We ended up having a great time and stayed there for the better part of four hours. Lots of fun, but I am absolutely shattered now as a result. Nothing brings on fatigue quite like an afternoon spent in the sun.

Well I guess an Ironman is fairly fatiguing too, but playing in the sun is a solid effort too.

As well as spending some time getting sandy and dehydrated I also had a bit of training today. This morning it was back on the trainer for yet another Kickr session. I have been on the Kickr so many times since my surgery that I have lost count. They all blur into one. Today's session seem to go okay. Power output was up a bit on my more recent rides and I am hoping it is a result of some more consistent training over the last two weeks. Perhaps a sign of slowly returning.

Certainly next week I am hoping to be able to take another step towards normal training. This surgery combined with Christmas has really thrown my routine into a spin. There have been weeks of rest and recovery, late nights, sleep ins, irregular diets etc. Now that I am starting to recover and we have survived Christmas I am hoping that the training routine will also begin to return to something that looks a bit more normal. Sure the next few bike sessions will be on the Kickr, running for the next two weeks will be on the Alter-G and swimming is going to be just plain strange, but at least I can fit the sessions in like I normally would. The plan is to get back into routine with eating and sleeping too. Get life starting to look a bit more normal again.

Well that is the hope anyway.
