Yesterday might have been hot without a side of scorching, but today the mercury just skipped all that and headed straight for face melting. The sort of day where you don't even pretend to do stuff outside (unless it involves swimming). You just find a cool place to hid and stay there.
For us the cool place was the cinema for a repeat watching of the latest Star Wars movie (yep I am that kind of person). For our kids it was the pool with the Grandparents. That is what I call making the most of a scorching hot day. The temperature is now returning back into the realm of normal and so the city is slowly starting to crawl out of hiding. Doing stuff outside is starting to feel like a reasonable proposal. Our day may have been one of cowering inside, but I feel it was one well spent anyway.
Speaking of being inside. This morning was another morning on the Kickr. I was rereading my blog from yesterday and I realised that it sounded like I was thoroughly sick of the Kickr. I must admit I have spent a lot of time on it lately, but I haven't been going out of my head yet. I will be very happy once I am back on the road, but the time on the Kickr has been passing really fairly smoothly. I guess that is what I meant yesterday that the sessions have all blurred into one, because they have passed by so easily.
Having said that this morning I did change the session up a little bit in the name of versatility and also to help the session pass a bit quicker. I introduced some three minute intervals into the spin to get the heart rate moving a bit and to get myself back to pushing out some proper watts. The intervals went okay and the body coped with the higher power outputs alright. The heart rate was a little high for the power I was pushing, but that is probably to be expected. In the end the 90 minutes on the trainer passed without any great struggle.
Still, I won't be on the Kickr tomorrow and I probably won't be too sorry about it. Tomorrow morning it is time to give this swimming thing another go. I am not expecting anything more than I could do last session, but now that I a have a better idea of what I can do, I can go into the session with a bit more of a plan. After the swim it will be time for another run on the Alter-G, this time with a little bit more body weight. Another step toward proper running on the road.
Another step towards return.
