Ho Ho Ho

Well that is it. The presents are wrapped and unwrapped again. The food is mostly eaten. The families have been gathered. Christmas is done for another year.

It was a fairly standard Christmas in our household, which is in no way a bad thing.

A standard Christmas in our house takes the form of a very early morning with some presents. A bit of respite, perhaps a short wait for some extended family to arrive before more presents, then food. Typically then more extended family, more food and then more presents.

Then collapse.

The day involves a lot of catching up, usually a lot of eating and a bit of fun and frivolity. Thankfully this year we managed to keep the eating under control to the point that I think the last of our left overs was finished tonight. The restraint with the food and a surprising lack of Christmas chocolates given as gifts (thankfully) means that I think I might have got through this Christmas fairly unscathed. To sort of quote The Matrix 'we aren't out yet', but we are close.

Yesterday involved no training, but then again it wasn't supposed to so I am completely okay with it. I will admit that I felt a big tinge of jealously when viewing the usual barrage of social media images showing my friends out for the Christmas rides/swims/runs. Activities that I simply can't do at the moment. But I am not sure that sort of thing would have fitted in with the day anyway. Plus, sometimes it is nice to have a chance to relax with the family.

Today was a different matter though, with training fitting in quite nicely thank you. Training today was a good solid trainer session, a bit over two hours on the Kickr. Usually I would mentally struggle with anything around the 2 hour duration, but today it went reasonably easily, not sure why. Time seemed to simply fly by. I also tested the shoulder a bit during the Kickr session, putting my full weight on it as well as practising turning the handlebars etc. It coped okay. Got a bit sore in the second hour, but I think I am close to getting back out on the road.

I will certainly be very happy once that occurs.
