Feedback

As I mentioned yesterday, I have been to the Doctor today for my first follow up session since my surgery.

In brief, the news is good. My shoulder is healing as it should and everything seems on track. The pain I am feeling is fairly normal. As my Doctor explained, everything might be all patched up, but it is nowhere near healed yet, internally the healing will take another three or four weeks. So all the hurting it so be expected. The good news is that this healing means that the pain should continue to decrease.

As well as visiting the Doctor I also had a follow up appointment with the Physio and so I also have some nifty new stretches to do to help improve on my shoulder's range of motion. One of the stretches involves a pulley, very exciting. I will get some more exercises on Friday to help work the strength of the shoulder.

Training wise doing work on the Kickr is fine, but running and swimming will have to wait, although at least I can go in the water now. Running is off the books until Christmas at the earliest and even if everything goes to plan swimming won't be until mid-January. Longer if it doesn't go to plan. The good news is that the Doctor is happy for me to jump on the road bike as soon as I feel I am safe to do so. I am not entirely sure when that will be since it certainly isn't now, I suspect it won't be for a couple of weeks. But having the okay to do so is a big first step.

I also got the nod to start stepping back the pain medication. This bit is always interesting as you get your first proper look at what your injury is really like, without the distortion of pain suppression. If previous experience is anything to go by I suspect it will be a bit worse than I think. At least to start with.

All up though things are progressing as they should. All movement is in the right direction which I am counting as a win.

One step at a time.
