Improvement

I saw a definite improvement in my body today. Not necessarily in my shoulder, that is still a long winding road I suspect, but more with how my body is coping with the healing.

Yesterday I did 45 minutes on the Kickr and if I am honest, it wasn't very comfortable. Down right icky for bits of it in fact. High heart rate, feeling like I was working very hard. I didn't then fall in a heap last night like I did on Thursday, but the riding really did not felt great.

Given that, this morning I was a little reluctant to jump on the bike. Saturday morning had felt like I was asking a bit too much of my body and so I was thinking that more rest might be the wiser course today. However, I thought I should at least get on the bike and see how it went. My aim was to keep the power a bit lower and just take it very easy.

I started out the ride that way and found that I actually felt alright. I bumped the power up a little, still keeping it very conservative, and found that I was still feeling good. In fact I got through an entire hour without feeling like the body was under any great strain. Certainly nothing like I had felt on Saturday morning. The average heart rate backed up that feeling, being significantly lower than my Saturday session, despite the power levels being similar.

I will be back on there again tomorrow morning (and many mornings to come I suspect) so hopefully the improvement I saw today will continue.

The other thing I will be doing tomorrow is heading back to the Doctor. This is my follow up appointment with the Surgeon and it will be my first real feedback session since the operation. I am all crossed fingers hoping that the news is good and that my recovery is on track. From my perspective my recovery feels like it is going well, but I haven't done this before so I don't really have anything to compare it to. Tomorrow should also give me an idea of what comes next. Will the pain levels decrease? Will movement increase? What activities can I do, when can I ride a bike on the road, when can I run? The list of questions is a long one. I am hoping that tomorrow brings some of the answers.

I guess time will tell.
