Tired start to the day this morning, getting up to jump on the bike was a real struggle. The body was really feeling the last week of solid training.
Still these are the little sessions that make the difference. When it is about the grind rather than the glory.
Once I was out and spinning the body came to the party and I started to feel a bit more human. To get myself more engaged with the session I thought I would try something new and went around the Swan River loop backwards. Well I should say clockwise (I usually go around anti-clockwise) rather than backwards. I didn't ride 40km in reverse, although I am sure that would have engaged me in the session too. Shortly before killing me.
Funnily enough I don't think I have ever ridden around the River Loop clockwise. Funny how stuck in our ways we can become. It was actually quite good, I can see why it is the 'normal way' for a lot of people. Nice seeing all the familiar hills etc from the other direction, riding down what are usually nasty uphills. Plus the change was very welcome. How does that saying go again...
I might ride around the river clockwise again sometime.
Whilst the session went okay this morning I am very glad that I have this afternoon off. As I mentioned last night last week was just the first of three intense build weeks heading into the Western Sydney 70.3. Given that I am still feeling my previous week of training, rest and recovery are going to be crucial to getting through this training block intact. That is what this afternoon is all about and I really feel like I could do with it. Looking forward to getting home and having a bit of a relax before trying to jump into bed at a reasonable time.
Never know, I might even manage it this time.
