The end

And so ends the week.

What a week it has been. This has to have been one of the most solid weeks of training I have put in for ages. Not so much in terms of hours (although that wasn't bad either for a half Ironman program), but just intensity and quality. No gimme sessions this week, every session was focused on something and they all went well. I can't think of a single session this week where I felt I was just dialling it in, I think each of them hit their mark. It has been a long time since I have been able to say that every session in my week (including running) met my expectations, but this week was one of them. Things are ticking along very nicely.

As a result of this epic week I am currently shattered tired.

The icing on this week's fatigue cake was 100km on the bike today. For future reference if my program says 'long, steep hills repeats in the hardest gear you can manage', I know to be very afraid. That hurt. Quite a bit. If I hadn't been tired heading in, I certainly would have been coming out.

I suspect the level of pain involved in today's session was as intended, however, not all the session went to plan. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get out on the Falco today. I just couldn't get the rear brake sorted. Regular readers may remember my close calls on the Falco last Tuesday due to poor braking. I thought I had got it sorted, but when I got the bike out this morning and gave it one last test, I found that the braking power of the rear calliper was still not what it should be. Given that I knew the session was going to including riding down lots of hills, I wanted to be on a bike with brakes that work. After a bit of fiddling this morning I officially gave up and headed out on the roadie. The Falco will get a trip to Churchill tomorrow to get it sorted. I am quite sure it is nothing major, or bike related for that matter. I suspect it has to do with cable routing and perhaps the brake pads I am using. I will see what the guys at Churchill have to say though. Shouldn't be a big issue though.

The other big thing today was the Mandurah 70.3. Yesterday I was feeling a bit angsty about not being involved, but I was surprised that today I was okay with it. Looked like a lovely day for a race, with the weather gods finally smiling on the race and not making it scorching hot. Great day for a PB which it seems lots of people took full advantage of. Was great to see so many mates have great days out. I think that is why I am okay with not having raced myself. Would have been a nice chance to post a good time, but at the same time it was great to watch so many friends have good days out. Sometimes that is enough and today was one of those days. Besides plenty of other races coming up soon.

Now, time for some rest before cracking into another solid week next week. And the week after...
