On the Kickr this morning. Really the session was meant to be done out on the road on the Falco V, but things didn't quite go to plan around that.
I mentioned yesterday that the Falco was in at Churchill Cycles getting its rear brake sorted out. Probably just needs a new cable apparently. Anyway, not quite ready by the end of yesterday leaving me without a TT bike this morning. I could have headed back out on the road bike, but the session is meant to be done on the TT. So rather than get to bothered about it I swapped Thursday's Kickr set for this morning's TT session. Simple.
Not easy though. Wow, painful session. The session this morning was something quite new for me. Low cadence work, as in really low cadence, around 50rpm. Total strength session. Cranking up the resistance and standing on the pedals, like you are grinding up the world's steepest hill.
It was an interesting session. I quite liked it, although by the last interval I was in a world of hurt. I am not sure the power meter liked it though. I think the super low cadence stuff was messing with its calibration because it seemed to be measuring quite high, particularly during the easy bits. Doesn't really matter, the power meter is just a tool, I can tell you from what I was feeling I was definitely working.
Running tonight and the strength theme continues, heading back to some hill repeats. Steep, short ones today similar to last Tuesday. Today has the added charm of including more repeats. This was an interesting session last week and part of me is keen to give it another go, although I think I will incorporate a few tweaks that I learnt from last week.
Once the run is done, and I have hopefully regained feeling in my legs, it will be pool time in the morning for a good old Red Mist session with the Swim Smooth squad. Then I will get the afternoon off. Not that I am counting the minutes to the afternoon off bit or anything...
