The last bit

Well that is it, last day of work done. Now I am officially on taper. Time to rest up and get fresh.

Training this morning was a brick, 70 minutes on the bike and then 14km off the bike. This is the first brick I have done for a few weeks and so I was interested to see  how it went. The result of the brick was going to have a bit of an impact on my race plan for next weekend, so it was important for it to go to smoothly.

All up it certainly did go to plan, the legs were a little fatigued heading out on the bike but quickly settled in. Out on the run though things felt good. The legs fatigued a bit, but on the whole the run felt solid and controlled. Very happy with the result, a perfect lead into next weekend.

I did have plans of heading down to the river this afternoon for a cheeky little dip, but in the end that didn't happen. By the time I got to this afternoon I found I was feeling a bit more fatigued that I expected and decided to just have a rest instead. I think the session this morning must have taken more out of me than I thought. The swim wasn't on the program and besides spending the afternoon with the family is never really a hardship. I am still keen to spend a bit more time in the wetsuit, but I will have plenty of opportunities to do that during the week.

Now of course the other thing I did today was spend a fair bit of time tracking results in Kona. Looked like a typical day in Kona, some races going to plan, many not, but everybody having a really tough day. As I usually find, amazing to watch, but very little motivation to do it myself. Epic performances all round though.

Rest day tomorrow and I as I sit here I find I am quite looking forward to it. A bit of a sleep in and a nice day of guilt free resting.
