I think I could write pretty much anything I wanted today, because lets me honest if you are a triathlete sitting at a computer anytime in the next 24 hours then you are probably looking up Kona. Don't worry I don't blame you, I will probably be doing it too.
Funny one that Kona race. As I have said before, I have never been, and it has never really been a high priority for me, but even I get sucked into the hype of it. I think it is mostly because I have a lot of friends over there this year and I am quite keen to see how they go. There are a number of them that if the day goes to plan, should do really well, so I am very eager to see what they can do.
As for the whole, not a fan of Kona thing, to be honest I have nothing personal against the race, I just think I object to constantly being told that it is the pinnacle of our sport. Like if Kona isn't the objective of your entire life then there is something wrong with you. In my experience it does become all encompassing for some people and that sort of obsessiveness is never healthy, no matter what it relates to.
Anyway, I will be there watching anyway, just like everybody else.
On the training side of things, I got a couple of really good sessions under my belt today.
The morning started off with a quick fire 100km on the bike. Boy, what a bike ride. For the last few Saturday's every ride has been a little bit better than the week before. After last week I was at the point of thinking 'there is no way I am going to top that'. When I headed out on the bike this morning I wasn't even thinking of last week's ride. I was feeling a little bit tired and I really just wanted to get the session done. Wow though, what a session. One of the quickest 100km I have ever done, and the best bit it is felt pretty easy. I was certainly still firing along by the time I got home. Not sure where it is coming from, but it bodes well for the fitness levels. Also, coincidence that some of my fastest training sessions have happened since I started riding the Falco? I don't think so.
Second session of the day was a swim down with the Swim Smooth squad at Claremont pool. Really didn't feel up to this session. Not so much fatigue of anything, just had things to get on with at home. As usual though I am really glad I went to the effort. Not that hard for a change, although not that easy either. Lots of open water skills work though, which was great. A really fun session in the sun.
Brick time tomorrow. Plus some race going on in Hawaii.
