Preparation

Woke up this morning feeling a lot better than I had been yesterday afternoon. In the end a good night's sleep really did make the world of difference.

Feeling better this morning meant I was able to get out and go for the run I was supposed to do yesterday morning. Was quite a good run in the end, a bit of work at tempo pace, feeling fairly good for most if it, although a bit of fatigue towards the end. Good solid session that was nice to get under the belt after some disrupted running earlier in the week.

Running this morning did mean missing out on the Friday morning Swim Smooth session, so to make up for that I headed down to the Swan River this afternoon for a bit of an open water swim with a mate of mine Chris who also swims with Swim Smooth (and lives around the corner). Really nice swim with some warm weather and reasonably clear water (for the river). One of the more pleasant swims I have had in the Swan. Glad I went to the effort of doing the session in the open water since I have to say I wasn't entirely comfortable in the wetsuit. It has been a while since I have worn the wetsuit (not since the middle of the year) and so the swim didn't feel as comfortable as it usually would. I think I may even go for another short swim later on the weekend, perhaps Sunday, just to get a bit more wetsuit time. You can never be to prepared when it comes to this sort of thing.

As well as the run and the swim we also had our weekly Pilates session today. Tough one today, some really solid core work. I have done lots of strength work over the years and so up until the now the Pilates has been good, but not all that challenging. I started hitting my current limits today, made for some tough work. Lots of areas to work on too.

Riding in the morning. This is my last weekend before the race and so things get a little bit more serious this weekend. Not so much with the training, that is the same as usual, but more in terms of preparation. Besides training there are a few other things to get done this weekend, pack the bike, make final plans for nutrition, that sort of thing. Getting a bit more serious now.

Oh yeah and track Kona of course. That is the other thing to do this weekend.
