- Price;
- proximity to race course; and
- presence of a bed.
When travelling for work, there aren't priorities for finding accommodation since somebody does that for me. Needless to say where I am sitting at the moment is different to my usual race style abode. I suspect this room is bigger than my first apartment.
I must admit that since I am travelling I have reverted back to athlete mode a little bit, but I may have to step up my game here. I have never felt under dressed in a hotel before, however, I am not sure my thongs are cutting it.
Whilst I am here for work, today has been a bit of a quiet day waiting for some other people to arrive and catching up on sleep (I got into my room a bit after 1:00am this morning), that has given me the chance to get a little bit of training in. I have been keen to make the most of it since I am not sure just how much chance I will have in the coming days.
I got a bit of a run in this morning in line with the guidance given by the physio. It felt pretty okay again. I don't say pretty good, because it wasn't pain free. But the pain levels were certainly manageable. I am quietly confident the groin is on the improve. The run was actually done on a treadmill, which I have never really spent much time on before, since I have always associated them with injuries. However, I don't have a lot of choice here, it is treadmill or nothing, so I thought I would give it a go. I wasn't too bad, other than the scenery getting a little monotonous, the running feel certainly felt okay. There is something kind of nice about being able to control your pace so exactly as well. Although I have my doubts as to how accurate the pace of my particular tread mill was. Still it was good to get the session in.
I also managed to get a bit of a swim in. Doing so meant dealing with a fairly typical hotel pool, which by my estimate is about 15m long. Not ideal, but better than nothing, it just meant lots of laps, plus I was turning short of the wall and not pushing off to make sure I was making the most of what little water there was. Given the limitations of the pool I decided to make the session a bit of a strength one, lots of polo swimming and paddle work (yes I brought them with me). As I said above, better than nothing.
Tomorrow I am less hopeful about being able to get anything fitted in, other than a good stretch session. I fear Wednesday may be the same. However, I am hoping by Thursday I might be able to make something work. Fingers crossed.,
