I haven't trained today. As I mentioned yesterday, I was always going to play it be ear and in the end the mood just take didn't me. As I said in my last post, I leave today for a couple of weeks of travel for work. Whenever I travel for racing I find it very hard to get together the motivation for training since all my mental energy is focused on getting ready for the trip. Travelling for work is no different, except this time I didn't have the threat of an impending race to force me out the door. Instead I let myself take the easy option and have a relaxing morning with the family and getting ready for the trip.
So with the trip I am going to be away until Friday week. It is the longest I have ever been away from my family and to be perfectly honest I am not really looking forward to it. I usually find myself missing them very badly by about day three or four, so I am not sure what state I am going to be in my day 12. It was one of those situations where I didn't have a lot of choice unfortunately, so basically I am trying not to think about it that much.
As well as being away from the family, I am not sure what it is going to mean in terms of training. I am hoping it doesn't mean two weeks of no training. I should have access to some sort of gym equipment if nothing else, so I should be able to do some activity, if I am able to fit it in. There are a lot of unknowns heading into the this trip and so I am trying not to mentally commit myself to anything until I land and get a feel for what is possible and what isn't.
In the end this is one of those unfortunate times in life where work comes first and everything else is secondary. If I can fit in some training then that will be awesome. If I can't, then I am not going to keep myself up and night stressing about it.
One upside of this trip is that we are planning on using it to get my groin/hip flexor right. Hopefully anyway. Even if I can train, it will a big step down from what I usually do, so there should be some resting involved. Hopefully that means once I get back the groin is good to go and we can get on with the business of getting ready for Mandurah 70.3.
One thing I should be able to do is get online, so I should be able to keep up with the blog. I can't guarantee it will be every day, but it should be semi regularly. We shall have to wait and see.
