It was very nice to be on the bike again this morning, but fair to say the legs were not loving it. Never has such a low power output felt so hard. The ride ended up going fine, but I was more than happy just pootling along with the squad. No desire to be breaking records today. In the end I suspect there were some extenuating circumstances which I will discuss in a moment, but generally I think time off the bike played a big part, which means that time on the bike aught to solve the problem pretty well. It usually does.
The extenuating circumstance from the ride this morning was that I think I am also starting to get sick. Not 100% sure about that yet, might not take in the end, but the signs are all there. Not feeling great, elevated HR all the usual guff. I didn't realise it when I was riding this morning, but it seems to have taken more serious hold this afternoon. I could be wrong, I didn't get a great sleep last night, so I could just be feeling the after effects of that, but right now I am not feeling great, which may have played a part on the bike this morning.
As you can imagine I would prefer not to get sick now. I am just getting the exercise thing going again and so it will be a real pain if I lose a few days to a cold. Often in these cases you go to bed feeling a bit off and wake up feeling fine, so I am hoping that will be the case today, but it can be hard to tell when you are still on the night before bit. At the moment the plan will be to wake up to train in the morning and then judge it then. Usually it is pretty obvious. If it isn't obvious then I will give the training thing a go and see where it takes me. Not going to be silly stubborn about it, but I would prefer not to miss a day of training if I don't have to.
I will be listening to my body though. As I keep telling my athletes, you can't cheat a cold, there is no magic bullet other than rest and time, they always come good in the end, you just need to let nature take its course. Hopefully that advice isn't necessary this time, but I will be ready to hear the messages from my body if it is.
