Into the hills

Well that ride session went surprisingly okay. 91km of riding and about 1100m of climbing later and I am still alive and feeling surprisingly okay.

On top of survival, the ride also ended up being rather pleasant.

The ride today was a good example of what can make riding in the Perth hills so nice. There was quite a strong headwind on the way out, which made some of the first hills extra unlovely, but once we were into the hills proper we were out of the wind a bit and we were simply able to enjoy some nice roads on a nice day.

The group from Front Runner went well too. We were only a small group today (8 of us) due to a few other events being on, but that didn't stop us all having a great time out on the bikes. Just like last time we did one of these Front Runner rides, a bit of patience by the faster folks and persistence from some of the less fast folks meant that the group stayed together well and everyone had a good time.

From a personal point of view the ride was another re-assuring step towards fitness. The last one of these rides went pretty well, but today's ride was planned to be a bit harder and a bit further and so I was actually worried about how it would go. Turns out it was going to go fine. Definitely some fatigue in the legs as we got further into the hills, but nothing catastrophic, certainly not on the verge of collapse or anything. Still a long way to go on the fitness front, but it looks the legs have a bit more left to give too which is great to see.

Might have to try and fit in a bit more of this cycling thing. Turns out it cam be a lot of fun.
