New experience

Something new today up in Darwin.

Last night I was thinking that this morning would be a good morning for a jog. I was talking to my wife about whether she was wanting to do any exercise today. She felt that this morning would be a good morning for a jog too. What to do...

Simple, we went jogging together.

My wife and I have never actually gone jogging together. Firstly, my wife only really started running at the start of this year, so we haven't had that many opportunities. Then of course down in Perth it is pretty hard for us to go jogging together since one of us usually needs to stay home to look after the kids.

Up here in Darwin though we have a bit of a unique opportunity. Staying with my Mum and Dad means that we currently have live in baby sitters, which meant that my wife and I had the rare chance to go running together. Which we did.

And what a lovely run it was.

40 minutes of running done as 3 minutes jogging and 1 minute of walking. It was a session designed to gradually increase my wife's volume without over stressing her. All up we covered just over 5km. A nice solid workout for my wife and fun steady run for me, made just a little bit more solid by the warm, humid weather we had this morning. Plus it also gave us 40 minutes to just hang out. Nice way to spend some time.

As well as get out for a nice family jog I also got a very welcome e-mail this morning. The e-mail I got this morning was from Triathlon Australia and it was confirmation that I am now officially a Triathlon Australia Development Coach. Hooray. I haven't received the paper work yet, but that is a matter of time, the coaching qualification is mine.

Tomorrow, my wife and I will be having another new experience. Rather than running, tomorrow's experience will be down the pool. That's right, we are going swimming together. Not just any swim either, tomorrow we are both heading down to Daryl Stanley's swim squad to join in for the morning. It could be a rather interesting experience as my wife has never swum with a squad and I haven't swum with one for about 6 months. I am not particularly expecting miracles, especially on my end, but it should still be a lot of fun and a nice way to include some exercise in our day. And best of all, the pool deck won't be sub 10 degrees.
