Quieter day today, both in terms of exercise and holiday activity, none of the former and only a bit of the later..
My mum always says that Day Three of a holiday is always a bit of a come down day. The excitement of the holiday gets you through the first couple of days, but by day three you are running low on adrenaline and the lack of sleep and abundance of activity catches up with you, resulting in a bit of a crash. That has certainly been the case today, both for our kids and us.
Still, one of the nice things about a holiday is that you can wake up in the morning, consider going for a run and decide that it isn't for you, deciding instead to stay in bed and then later go out for a coffee. That is exactly what we did today.
The day wasn't completely sport free though, I did spend a good few hours catching up with the opening stage of the Tour de France from last night. I had been keen to watch it live, but couldn't quite get myself there. Still, watching a recording was not a bad alternative. Early days in the tour obviously, but as always it looks like it is going to be a compelling contest. The early exit of Valverde is unlikely to upset the final results of the tour, although Quintana may miss him as the tour progresses. However, the crash that took Valverde out is so typical of the tour and the unexpected things that can happen.
As an Aussie I am obviously barracking for Porte, but if it doesn't go his way, which it very well may not, it won't crush my world. Really I just love the event and watching all the drama as it unfolds. Porte is looking in great form heading into the event and while losing 30 seconds or so to Froome last night isn't the ideal start I think most of the Porte fan club won't be too worried yet. As sports reporters love to say, there is a very long way to go in the tour, so who knows what will happen between here and Paris. There is plenty of opportunity for Porte to make up those 30 seconds, although there is obviously plenty of opportunity for others to do that too. As we have seen numerous times before, anything can happen. Will be a great spectacle either way.
Day 4 of the holiday tomorrow and besides doing a bit more solid holidaying (and Tour watching) I think I might be feeling up to some exercise tomorrow too. We shall see.
