That is about all I feel mentally capable of typing right now. I have just spent 9 of the last 12 hours in my level 1 Triathlon Development Coach course and it would be fair to say that my brain is currently mush.
I was hoping that a few years of racing experience would mean that this course would be mostly revision. Surely I know everything already right?
Turns out I don't. Hmmm, who knew?
Most of today's course has covered topics that I have known a bit about, however, I don't think there was any one topic that I didn't learn something about, which was awesome. In the end we do these sorts of courses to learn and so it would have been disappointing if that didn't occur. Plus I think it is always a good thing to get that healthy reminder that you really don't know everything. In fact probably the biggest thing I will take away from this session is just how little I do know.
It was also a lot of fun meeting and greeting new people in the world of triathlon. I have been on the Perth Tri scene for quite some time and you get to know a certainly circle of people, however, it is such a big population that you will never know everyone. Today was a great chance to meet and get to know some new people who share a passion for this bizarre sport that we do.
Today's course covered a wide range of topics. A bit of theory and a primer on the rules of triathlon. We then spent a bit of time on running (both practical and theory), some time on the theory behind energy systems, before finishing the day with a bit of swimming (both practical and theory). In fact I think I swam further today than I have for about 3 months. My body didn't know what hit it.
Tomorrow we are going to be looking at riding as well as spending quite a bit of time in the classroom learning about session planning etc. Should be another very full on day. I suspect my already struggling brain will be about ready to explode after tomorrow.
Better get some sleep between now and then.
