As mentioned yesterday, something a little bit different for me today.
Today was my first adventure in the world of retail.
It didn't occur to me until after, but I don't think I have ever worked in a store before. Sure I have sold stuff I guess, like at fundraisers etc. But I have never actually done a job where the point of it was to be in a place and sell a thing to a person.
Well, now I can tick that box.
Hooray?
As I said in the last blog, today I was helping out at The Running Centre tent at Race 2 of SunSmart Triathlon Series. Working at the Tri let me kill two birds with one stone. It let me help out The Running Centre and Mizuno, both companies that have helped me out heaps over the years and secondly it let me watch some exciting racing. In fact, as the tent backed right onto the transition area, it was quite a good spot to spectate, although I am not sure the customers appreciated me doing so.
You could say I spent the morning attempting to sell shoes, however, saying that would sort of be misrepresentative, simultaneously making the day sound dull and making it sound like I can sell shoes. In fact while it sounds like the morning should have been rather boring, I actually had a great time. Anyone who knows me will tell you that getting me talking isn't a problem, it is getting me to stop which is the tricky bit. So really a morning where I got to spend my time chatting to people about triathlon is my idea of a good time. Although, it may not be anyone's idea of an effective way to sell shoes. Surprisingly, despite me the tent still did pretty well, selling a whole bunch of shoes to people, plus a healthy array of running hats, socks and other running paraphernalia. Very exciting.
Mark that up as one for enjoyable first time experiences. Enjoyable enough that I think I might even do it again sometime.
Still got no idea how to operate an EFTPOS machine though.
The other big thing I did today was that I finally got to watch Rogue 1. Hallelujah. Damn that was good. Very enjoyable. Love me a good Star Wars movie.
Tomorrow. Training.
Back to it properly now.
