A bit of different and a bit of the same going on today. A bit more different to come tomorrow too.
The same bit today was I managed to train again today, same as a normal Saturday would be. Thankfully I feel like my body really is, finally, getting over this cold. Little bit remaining, but on the whole I am getting through my days feeling quite normal. Thank goodness. Now I can concentrate on getting on with this Triathlon thing.
The slightly different bit today come in the training that I did. For reasons that will become apparently momentarily, I am not convinced I will get a chance to run tomorrow. Usually I would go for a long run on Sunday, but I just don't think that is going to fit with the day that is planned. With this cold I haven't run since last Sunday, so if I don't get a chance to run this weekend, that would make the break between runs very long indeed. For that reason I decided that I would head out for a run today instead of going out on the bike. Replacing a long ride for a long run is not something I would usually like doing, but given that I won't be able to run tomorrow I figured it was the lesser of two evils. Besides, it is not as if it is a completely ride free weekend. I went for a recovery ride this afternoon and I am hopeful of getting in at least a short ride tomorrow. Not a total write off.
While I am very happy with my decision to go running. The running itself was not exactly a pleasing experience. Soooooo slow. I headed out not to bad a pace, but it became apparent very quickly that my heart rate was going to inappropriately high for the pace I was holding so I made the decision to pull it right back. As with yesterday, I feel like I am well enough to be training, but I still want to be quite conservative with it, avoiding any high intensity work for a few days. For most of the run I ignored pace entirely and just made sure I was running at a comfortable intensity. As a result I am not too bothered about the pace, but gee it really was painfully slow. I am sort of hoping the slow pace is due to residual cold, rather than a total lack of fitness, but I am not so sure. I know I have heaps of time to rebuild the fitness, but if today is any indication, it could be a really, really long road.
So that is what was different about today, but what is different about tomorrow, and why can't I run then? Well tomorrow I am going down to help out at one of the local tri events in the City. I actually volunteered at this event last year when I was injured, but this year I am not being quite so philanthropic. Rather, this year I am going down to help out at the combined Mizuno/The Running Centre Tent. Working at the expo rather than volunteering will be a fairly different experience, but it should still be a lot of fun I hope. Sometimes I quite enjoy being at triathlons when I am not racing. I don't typically enjoy it when it is a race that I was hoping to do myself, but in this case I am happy to sit tomorrow's race out and so I am more than happy to simply be a spectator. Should be an exciting one to watch.
Other than helping at the Tri I am also, finally, going to see Rogue 1. Hooray!!!
