Trackless Day

Well that was a fun day of race tracking. Of course I use the term race tracking in the loosest possible sense. Really it was a day of looking at a screen that wasn't updating while trying to figure out what was happening based on a blog that tracks a total of about 10 athletes. Ironman has been doing this for a while, you would think they could come up with a tracking system that actually tracked athletes, rather than one that simply provided the results at the end. It is not as if what they are trying to do is particularly ground breaking, there are plenty of other race organisers, lets say more CHALLENGEing organisers, than manage the task fine.

The tracking for Busselton 70.3 was some of the worst I have seen. Not only were the tracking results for the pros not updated until after they were finished. But the details for the rest of the field were complete gibberish for a good hour after the end of the race. Just pointless.

That frustration aside, phew, what a year down at Busselton. Absolutely smoking race. The forecast looked like the conditions were going to be perfect and I would say that is what turned up. A new course records and PBs for everyone. Not sure if weather is enough to account for the high speeds seen, everyone obviously ate their weeties too. Amazing results.

And another win for Crowie. What can you say about that guy. Proving once again that anyone who might be waiting for him to slow down with age could be waiting a really long time.

Just quietly, a bit disappointed to miss out on what was obviously a stellar year to be racing, but that is the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

While I may not have had the joy of racing at the nicest Busso half in recent memory I did get to enjoy a rather nice run this morning. Today's run followed on from the run I had on Friday. The run's had different focuses, but they felt very similar. Just plain nice. Today's run was significant because it is the first time I have set out to run a couple of hours for a while. I wasn't sure how the body would cope, but the short answer is that it coped just fine. The trick with these runs is to just relax and let the pace be what it will be and that is exactly what I did. Even still, I was very happy with what the final pace and heart rate were. It was definitely a sign of returning fitness.

I just need two functioning arms now.
