Well this morning wasn't quite what I had planned when I wrote my blog post last night. Last night I mentioned I was going to be on the trainer this morning, but due to a couple of unforeseen circumstances I actually ended up at the pool. Again. No ducks this time.
If I had known that I was heading back to the pool. this morning I am not sure I would have been down there last night. Oh well.
Despite it all, the swim went well. Actually, considering it was a back up session it went really well. Not all that much fatigue, although there was certainly a bit of muscle soreness. This morning's session re-enforced my impression from yesterday that I am down about 10 seconds/100m on my normal top pace. Still, hope springs eternal as the swimming continues to improve and my shoulder feels more and more like normal. I have said it before, and I will again, I am actually very happy with how the return to swimming is going. Somebody today made the comment that it is a long road back, and it certainly is, but so far it isn't seeming quite as long as I was worried it might be.
Tonight it is time for the other problem child, running. Another bit of easy running tonight. Once again I will be focusing on keeping the intensity down and at the correct levels. All about getting miles in the legs at the moment. No point overdoing it and ending up hurt at this point. A nice thing with returning to training is the knowledge that speed is a byproduct of the process. You don't need to force it, you just need to do the work and the speed bit will take care of itself. It would be nice if it took care of itself a little bit sooner but I don't need to worry, because it I know it will get there in the end. I can have that confidence that the process will work because it has before. Patience is a virtue or so I have heard.
