This morning it was time to pay the piper and do the bike session that I was supposed to do yesterday when I went to the pool instead. Not a big deal really, other than the fact that it requires an early morning and therefore a tired kind of day. Funny really, even when I head to bed early enough so that I get sufficient sleep, getting up at 4:15 or so always leaves me tired anyway. I don't like having to call on coffee to get through a day, but today it came into the equation.
Sessions like this one are the times I wish I was the sort of athlete who didn't need to work. Being able to head to bed after training, or even better, train later so that I don't need to get up early would be wonderful. Instead I find myself crawling into bed early so that I can be up at an ungodly hour so that I can fit the session in. Not ideal. Still no different to the efforts most other triathletes out there go to. At least it is getting cooler at the moment and so snuggling into bed nice and early isn't exactly a hardship.
No training this afternoon though. Nice session off for a bit of recovery, which I am finding I am needing at the moment.
So far the body is coping well with the return to training. I have been tired, but not overly so, the same could be said for muscle soreness which is a little surprising if I am honest. I was expecting my return to training to be a bit more painful, but really the body is slipping back into old routines surprisingly easily. Yes the pace and endurance is still down, but the processes are there. Still the afternoon off today is welcome as I have been finding the fatigue is accumulating a little. What do they say, rest is the fourth leg of training, or something like that.
Back to the session this morning though, the time on the Kickr today went well. I have had a couple of sessions now where the power levels, heart rate etc are really starting to return to normal and this was another of them. The session this morning would not have been too out of place pre-injury. The intent of course is to not just recover, but improve, which is something I am very focused on. As they say, you have to walk before you can run, but with the session this morning I feel like I could be close to walking again.
Time for sleep.
