Another day, another session.
That in itself is a minor success.
Today's session was another run. Another chance to test the fitness, test my resolve to keep things under control and test how my left knee is feeling.
A couple of wins and a miss against those goals. I managed to keep the session reasonably under control again which I am happy with. I headed out with a goal to limit myself to 5min/km for now and I largely stuck with that.
The knee held up okay. A little bit sorer now I think, but it remained within my prescribed pain limits during the run and even now it not too bad. See how it feels in the morning, but I think it will be fine.
The missed goal is probably the fitness and with that one I have to not be expecting miracles. Really the run was a slight improvement over the one I did on Sunday, so that is a good thing. But when I look at where I am and where I need to get to it can be a little depressing. Holding myself to 5min/km wasn't a problem today, but the level of effort it cost me was a bit disheartening.
Still it is very early on a long road and I am much better off being disappointed, but persevering at an appropriate level than I am giving into my frustration and trying to do too much too quickly. This week is as much about getting out and getting moving again as it is about slowly starting to rebuild fitness. I have to remember that.
