Very inspiring day of triathlon tracking today. I really enjoyed keeping an eye on Ironman NZ today, mostly because it was such a compelling story, with a fairy tail finish for Cam Brown. Great to watch how the race developed and unfurled. Viennot leading off the bike so convincingly then cramping. The battle between Cam Brown and Callum Millward on the run. It was a lot of fun to watch. Almost enough to make me do an Ironman. In fact it was enough to make me pretty keen which is something I haven't said for a while (possibly ever). Something to think about once I am up and training again.
Speaking of training. This morning it was two hours on the Kickr. As I mentioned yesterday, I thought briefly about going out on the road, but in the end the Kickr was always the most likely option. The two hours passed about as easily as it can on the Kickr. There is always a point just before an hour where you realise that you are not quite half way yet and the desire to pack it in and get off is fairly strong. However, I find that once you are through 80 minutes or so you know you are going to make it, just a case of counting it down. That is exactly how it was today. By 90 minutes I had found my stride and the last half an hour passed easily.
Session was a good one with the power levels and heart rate zones just where they needed to be. Power is still down on the norm, and also down on what I was doing during the week if I am honest. However, given the longer duration the lower power was expected and so I am happy with how the progress is coming along.
I have finally started shifting some weight too so that is a nice reward for the effort of the last two weeks. About 1.5kg in the last week, so the scales are also starting to return to more familiar territory. I am hoping it is a sign that my digestive tract is also returning to normal. On that front, I took my last anti-biotic today. No more 14 tablets a day. Hopefully, now that I am no longer taking regular medications all will remain quiet with the plate until it comes out. I am pretty sure it will, the wound has been fully healed and trouble free for a while now. I suspect the anti-biotics have been unnecessary for a week or more.
Anyway, no longer being on regular medication is a nice milestone. The next big one will be the plate coming out, shortly followed by my first swim (hopefully). Getting there, slowly.
Another big morning of race tracking tomorrow with a personal favourite of mine happening, 70.3 Subic Bay. I have a few friends racing up there and I am really looking forward to seeing how they go. Should be a fun one to watch.
