A bit of a late post today. but deliberately so.
The plan today was to head out for a run, however, as I said the other day I have had a bit of lower leg soreness which I haven't wanted to aggravate. It felt okay this morning, but I am still a bit cautious about it. So with that in mind I didn't run this morning and instead headed down to the Alter-G treadmill this afternoon for my session. I wanted to wait until the session was done before posting.
The Alter-G was perfect for what I needed this session. With the treadmill dialled in to reduce my body weight by 10% I was able to get in an hour of running without putting undue stress on my leg. Being a treadmill also meant that I could control the pace to ensure my heart rate didn't get too high. Something I have been struggling to do on the road. As a result the hour was done at the right intensity but without stressing the body. Just what I was after.
In fact I am thinking that incorporating an Alter-G session into my running once a week for the next little while may not be a bad idea. It would allow me to gradually build volume while not overloading the legs, giving me time to adapt back to running. I will see how I go in the coming weeks. Next week is my surgery and I will have at least one quiet week after that, so it probably isn't something I have to worry about too much yet.
Bike session in the morning. Once again I think it will be on the trainer. I really am keen for a session on the road and I thinking Monday might be the time for that since it is a public holiday in Perth and so I will be in no rush. If I am honest I am a little nervous of riding on the road while the plate is in, which is one of the reasons I have been thinking that I may just leave riding on the road until after next Friday. I will see how I am feeling about it all once Monday comes along. Time on the trainer is hardly a time wasted anyway.
