It had to happen sooner or later. Christmas is officially here. Actually it has been in our house for a while, the tree goes up in our house pretty much as soon as the Calender strikes the first of December. But tonight things went a step further with the first of our official Christmas Family Dinners. Being a modern family we have four or so branches, that in a busy year may all have Christmas meals. This year is going to be a quiet one with only two or so, Today's and then Christmas day itself. All very fun though, with the typical overload of very nice food. I tried to be good tonight and eat in moderation, it is an approach that I am hoping to maintain for the rest of the festive period.
That dinner is the reason why it is 9:30 in the evening and I am only just getting to writing this now. Between the dinner and a nephew's birthday BBQ at lunch it has been a full on day. A very nice one though.
Before all that though I did get down to the pool for a swim. As I said yesterday it was a big chunk of drill 1300m or so with another 2km of just normal swimming. The session went fine, with most of it kept fairly low intensity. Swimming began to feel normalish again nice and quick, although I still wasn't entirely happy with my catch by the end of the session. I am confident that it will come back to me though. Based on the session I am not entirely sure how my first Swim Smooth Wednesday morning session will go, but I am at least confident enough now to think that I should be able to survive.
I do hate losing fitness, but I love the process of regaining it. Heading out every session and knowing that each thing you do is bringing you one creeping step closer to getting back to where you were. It is great motivation. I am certainly looking forward to the next four weeks.
Tired now, time for sleeping.
