Yesterday I mentioned that I was going to do Friday's run/walk this morning. In the end I didn't go down that route. This is a recovery week and so I decided that just this once I could take the easy option and let my body continue to recover. I have to say I made the decision reasonably easily, very little guilt associated with it. It gave me a chance to sleep in and also a chance to spend a nice morning with the family which I haven't really been able to do since before Mandurah. It still feels like the right call.
It doesn't mean it was a day off though. I still headed down to the pool and did the Saturday Swim Smooth session. I have to say the session felt really good. It makes me think I am well on the road to recovering from last weekend. When I first got down I thought that I might have been feeling a little fatigued, but turns out I was wrong. I felt pretty solid the whole way through. It is always nice to make a good return to training after a race. Remind yourself that nothing has changed.
Moving away from training for a minute and on to some less fun news. I made a bit of an unpleasant discovery the other day. I found a crack in the seat stay of the P5. I found it not long after Mandurah, but being up in Darwin I wasn't able to do anything about until yesterday. It is a small crack and on first inspection almost looks superficial, however, on closer inspection it is a bit more serious than that. I managed to get it in to Churchill yesterday and the diagnosis is that it is not terminal but does need repair. That wouldn't be a big deal other than the fact that I need my bike in a bit under two weeks for Challenge Phuket. The guys at Churchill have noted it down as a priority repair and so are confident that it will be ready in time. Fingers crossed.
It does mean, however, that the next week of training at least will be on the road bike. Not a big deal really, I spend enough time on the TT bike that missing a couple of sessions on it is not really the end of the world. The bigger concern is making sure I get it back in time.
With that in mind tomorrow morning I will be out on the road bike for a bit of a bike/walk/run session.
Time to get back to some proper training.
