Ouchy

Tough session this morning. As I said yesterday it was probably the first proper session since Mandurah. A bit of a ride and a bit of a walk/run off the bike. On paper it seemed like a long, but quite manageable session. Turns out looks can be deceiving. I suspect I am not quite as recovered as I thought I might be.

The bikey bit went fine, it was good being back out on the road. I wasn't all that phased about being back out on my hill repeat hill, but thoughts of what awaits me in Phuket kept me doing my repeats. The walk/run felt fine as well, but it hurt. There wasn't any particular part of the walk/run that stands out as feeling bad, I hit my targets etc, I was just shattered by the end. It was warmish on the walk/run too, so perhaps that was a factor. I think the main thing though is that the legs are just lacking that little bit of zap. Should find its own way home though I suspect.

I realised after writing yesterday's blog about the crack in the frame of the P5 that I had forgotten to mention what we think caused it. When I first found the crack, my reaction was probably fairly typical, my first thought was WHAT DID I DO??? I must have packed it wrong once, or put it in the wrong place or, or, or something... But chatting to the guys at Churchill, I am beginning to suspect the crack wasn't caused by something I did. They are pretty certain that it has been caused by an impact. The say that the inside edge of the seat stay looks like it has been hit by something small and hard. Knowing that has put my mind at ease a little, because if the damage has been caused by an impact then it hasn't happened when I have been with the bike, I am pretty sure I would remember something like that. I suspect it would be pretty hard to miss. One theory the guys had was that perhaps the seat stay got knocked by a pedal or something in transition last weekend, or some other time when the bike was unattended (ie during registration or during the briefing). Certainly possible. I had a lot of clear space around my bike at transition, but funny things happen sometimes. It is still a bit of a stretch but it is certainly a possible theory. Other than that, I am not sure when the bike could have been hit by something. It doesn't matter that much, it obviously happened sometime. Getting it fixed is the main priority now.

Rest day tomorrow, which right now I feel I could do with. More stretching...
