Swimmers in the Mist

Tough morning to get myself down to the pool today. Not only was it about 2 degrees, but I had the prospect of some time trials to look forward to, which I thought where on the cards for this morning's session.

In the end though I got myself a bit stressed out over nothing, since the time trials are apparently not until next week. Still, time trials or not, forcing yourself down to the pool when it is near freezing is never easy.

I remember this issue from this time last year. You know the water will be warm(ish), you tell yourself over and over that it won't be that bad once you get in. But it doesn't really make jumping in any easier. I still struggle to take that last step into the pool. Taking that first step out again at the end of the session is also not easy. Mornings like this one make the swim to hot shower transition fairly rapid.
Other than the cold, the session was a good one. It is not often that you come out of a Wednesday morning swim thinking, 'that wasn't too bad'. I am not sure what it was about it, but I feel like I got through it in fairly good form. It wasn't like the session was that easy, it did contain 2 x 1000m pieces, but I got to the 4.5km mark still feeling okay. Whatever the reason, I am happy to take it as a win.

The ride last night was another good session as well. The conditions last night were a repeat of what we had on Monday night, cool, still, perfect. A bit more light would have been nice, but all the same it was a lovely ride. Some solid work too, including a few intervals, I hit all my goals and so was happy with the result.

With my swim done this morning I am done with training for the day. Nothing but going home and relaxing left on my agenda. A very nice place to be.

Tomorrow morning it will be back on the trainer. There is some talk of rain, but I would have been on the trainer anyway since I was on the road last night. If it ends up raining then that works out well. Hopefully if it is a bit rainy it might mean that isn't quite so freezing over night. I wouldn't mind that at all.
