Another Monday, another start to the training week. As with most of my training weeks at the moment, this one started out with a spin on the bike. A nice easy way to get into it.
This was another session done on the trainer. The bike was already set up and so I thought I might as well leave it that way. I am in the process of trying to figure out the best balance of trainer sessions to road sessions. I generally do my solid mid week rides on Tuesday and Thursday and my day works best if those sessions are done on the road, since I can do them either to or from work. However, I would like to get one of those done on the trainer, since I think there is the potential for a lot to be gained there. If I want to go that way, I suspect the trainer session will have to be tomorrow morning, since on Thursday the bike is the only option I have for getting home. Hmmmm, I will have a bit more of a think about it though.
Sorry about that, I just realised I was kind of thinking out loud there.
Moving on.
The session on the bike this morning was good. Solid, but not too hard, good spinny cadence (which was one of the goals of the session), ticked all the boxes really. If you Google cycling and Perth at the moment you might pick up from the amount of complaining on social media that Perth is currently a bit nippy (all relative of course - it is not like it is snowing). On mornings like this one it is always nice to be able to jump on the trainer instead of putting on every item of clothing I own and heading out on to the road. The routine I have settled on with the trainer is jump on and get going until I get warm and start to sweat, then turn the fan on. It is like the best of both worlds, not too cold at the beginning, not too hot at the end. Turns out that I would be a good bowl of porridge. I have spoken at length in previous posts about how much I am a fan of the Kickr, so I won't repeat that again. But I am reminded of it each session I have on there. This morning was no exception.
The only thing I would say with the trainer, is that I have to get better at selecting my on-trainer viewing. The trainer is loud enough that I struggle to hear any quiet dialogue. The thing I was watching this morning was much too talky. I spent much of the session trying to read lips. Of course once you get going, particularly with intervals, it doesn't matter what is on, since you aren't really watching it. But with an easy spin like this morning, it always helps if you can watch something that provides some interest. Less talky, more big explosions is the way to go I think. Luckily for me that is more or less what all the big movie studios seem to think as well, so I am spoilt for choice.
