I woke up in a cold sweat from a nightmare last night. Even after I got back to sleep I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that the dream had left me with.
The bad dream was disturbing on a couple of different levels. For one, the dream was that I was doing an Ironman today. That in itself is pretty horrifying. Secondly, in my dream, I was at transition and realised that I had forgotten my nutrition and there was no time to go back and get it.
NOOOOO!!!!!!!
It was pretty annoying really, because my brain was taking the message from the dream that I was racing today. So I would wake up during the night feeling nervous and anxious. I would then have to take a couple of deep breaths, tell myself it was okay and that I wasn't racing, before falling asleep again and going back into the dream.
Then when I was in the dream, I would be running around like mad looking for replacement nutrition, before the dream would shift slightly (as dreams do) and I would be sitting around talking with some people. Then mid conversation the first dream would intrude and I would jump up and run off screaming looking for nutrition again. It was just a little bit strange, but then again it was a dream.
Hopefully it wasn't a premonition.
My spin on the bike went well this morning. Nice and speedy, although it took a little while for my legs to remember what that was. The second half of the ride was solid though. The morning went dryly enough too, which was good. Quite a pleasant morning really, although the temperature was just at that point where you think you probably need some extra layers, but not to many. Vest or arm warmers, that was my conundrum today, not cold enough for both, but cool enough for something. I went with the vest in the end. You end up a bit sweatier, but don't have to put up with a cold core at the start. An issue I am sure my friends up in Darwin can relate to now that they are moving toward the frigid dry season, where temperatures may drop to as low as 20 degrees above freezing. Soldier on.
Anyway, I was just glad that it wasn't raining. I still have to ride home though, so hopefully my luck holds. It isn't forecast to, which is unfortunate, but we shall see.
