To start this post today, I want to take this chance to say thanks. Thank you to the lady in my office who selflessly soldiered on last week, despite clearly being unwell, coming into the office day after day to sit in the corner coughing and spluttering. Tirelessly ignoring suggestions from the boss to perhaps consider heading home. Persisting through adversity to make sure the work got done.
From the bottom of my sore throat I thank you.
Perhaps I am slightly to blame as well. Heading into Busso, right when the weather was cooling down, I was super paranoid about getting sick. I have had too many races derailed by illness, not this time I was telling myself. I took every precaution, I washed my hands so often that I nearly wore them down to nubs. I drew the line at isolating the kids in big blow up hamster balls, but I did consider it. It was all worth it though, because I got to race day feeling fine and well. However, last week, the week after race week, I maybe got a bit lazy with it. I was a bit sick of washing my hands every 10 or 15 seconds, so I let it slip a bit. In hindsight, doing that at the same time as the great plague swept through the office was possibly not the best idea.
As a result I got to yesterday afternoon with a familiar tickle in the throat. After that I tried to do the right thing and so headed to bed super early (before 9:00) to make sure I got heaps of rest. But what is that saying about best laid plans? Rather than sleep, my son decided that all the cool 14 month olds are staying awake at night instead, and so he decided he would rather be up between 11:30 and 12:30 instead. Oh well.
That is not to say I am feeling sick at the moment. Right now I am on that balancing point. I have a sore throat and occasionally feel a bit head coldy, but I am not what I would classify as full blown ill. I have moments of feeling okay and moments of feeling pretty ordinary. Having said that, waking up this morning tired and feeling slightly ordinary I decided that heading back to bed and getting more rest might not be a bad idea. As well as that I am currently typing this instead of going running. The plan from where I am currently sitting is to sleep in again tomorrow morning and then reassess on Thursday morning. I am hoping I will be right to kick off training properly then.
At least this is happening at this end of the training cycle rather than the other one.
