Better than last time

A run on the program this morning. A bit of cross country for something different. It is hard to run truly cross country from my place, and so a run like this usually translates as 'go for an interesting run' as opposed to my usual paths. This typically means some pavement, but a fair amount of running across ovals, a bit of running on beaches along the river, and if I am lucky, some trails. It also means a run which is a break from the norm, which is always refreshing.

Getting up this morning, it took a real effort to get myself out the door. I had heaps of sleep last night, but despite that, I still felt tired. The legs felt flat as well, something about riding hard yesterday...

On top of all that, I was struggling with memories of the run from Thursday, which really was unpleasant and left me pretty sore.

In the end though I got myself out the door and into it.

The thing I find nice about running cross country is that it tends to force me to slow down. I find it hard to run as quickly as I normally would over uneven and often soft surfaces. I find it even harder when it is still dark, like it was when I set off this morning. Maybe it was because of that, or maybe it was because of something else, but for some reason the running felt okay this morning. The run included some higher intensity intervals, and I was particularly surprised by how good they felt. I kept waiting for them to stop feeling good and they didn't, which was a pleasant surprise.

I did get quite rained on though.

But still  I would rather have been running in the rain than riding in it like I saw a bunch of people doing. Yep instead of riding in the rain I was out running 18km instead. Hmmm.... Lucky me?
