That is the sound a body makes when starting a run session two days after racing.
Needless to say my run session this morning was not earth shattering. Flaaaaat legs. It got better the further I went, as my body got used to the idea of running again, but at no point would I describe the run as awesome. It was a little bit of a slog.
Still sort of has to be expected, Olympic distance races are short, but they still involve going flat out for two hours. It can take the body a few days to recover from that sort of thing.
My back (and body in general) pulled up pretty sore after the running. That is partly because the run involved a lot of stopping and starting, which is something that my back still isn't reacting well to. However, I had a physio appointment this morning and the feedback was that despite the soreness, it still felt okay in terms of mobility and stiffness. Sure enough it is feeling okay now.
It was just a little bit of a reminder to me though that I am not completely out of the woods in terms of this back injury. I still have to be a bit vigilante and keep up my stretching etc.
Down to the pool in the morning and I must say I am feeling my usual pre Wednesday apprehension. That is partly because I am feeling pretty tired at the moment. However, this will be the only squad swim this week (pool is closed all weekend) and so I need to go and make the most of it. As usual I will get myself down there and get myself through it. But at the moment I would really quite like to simply crawl into bed instead.
Suck it up.
