Deja vu

A little predicatable I know, but I struggled in the pool this morning. Just still quite flat from the weekend. Not sore arms, more tired. It was a bit of deja vu from last week.

This time last week

This week I even got so far as telling Paul that I was done after 4000m and that I wasn't up for the last 1000m effort. However, just like last week, that wasn't entirely true and I ended up seeing out the set. It wasn't blazing, but it was solid and when it comes to this session, that is the point. I have a little warm glow in my chest from knowing that I stuck it out. Guilt can be a powerful motivator.

My back has more or less returned to 'normal' after the run yesterday. By normal I mean the level of stiffness and soreness that I was having before the weekend. The back is still improving, with soreness only really happening when I run and immediately afterwards. All other times it feels pretty normal. I think pain free running will get there as well, but that last little bit may take a bit of time. It certainly isn't bad enough to be getting in the way of training though.

Official results are now out from the Shoalwater Triathlon on the weekend. I did come across the line in 3rd with an official time of 2:01:47, which I am pretty happy with. Particularly chuffed with a swim time of 18:59, which includes a run up onto the beach for a turn and also the run up the beach into transition. The bike time was 1:04:06 which isn't crash hot, but it does include transition and additionally it is a course that is hard to ride fast (due to all the turns). If you look across the results all the bike times were on the slow side. Finally a run time of 38:41, which was only good enough to get the 11th quickest run time, but for me is absolutely flying (even if the run was slightly short). I am particularly happy with the time given that it was done off almost no proper running training.

My feel for the day was that it was a good one, so it is nice to finally have the results to confirm that. I am happy with third, but to be honest, I know the two guys who beat me will be racing at Busselton, so it would have been good to be a bit closer. I have a couple of weeks to improve on that before Busselton.

Out on to the bike this afternoon for a slightly more solid ride than I have been doing over the last few weeks. Legs are still feeling a little flat, but on the whole I am looking forward to getting out there.
