First, let me start off by saying I have nothing against bees. Some of my best friends contain honey. And to be fair if somebody had come along and smacked me in the face with their face at 35km/h I probably would have stung them too.
But owwww.
Still, I shouldn't complain too much, I guess it could have been worse. I could have been the bee.
The aforementioned Beegate 2014 (Beegate, really? Ok that's enough, just stop now) happened on my ride this afternoon. Other than that the ride was quite a pleasant one. A nice way to finish off the long, long weekend we have had. Just a bit of a recovery spin to start the week, after the very solid day of training from yesterday. Given how I was feeling yesterday afternoon, ie ruined, the ride today felt nice and solid, even the bits going into the wind. Enjoyable.
Training this morning consisted of a sleep in followed by a swim. The sleep in bit was very nice. It was an actual proper sleep in, unlike last Friday. I woke up when my body was ready to wake up rather than when my alarm went off. I can't remember the last time I did that. It was a great start to the day.
The swim this morning was a pretty interesting session. Kind of like weights in the pool. The instructions were to wear a loose race top and do lots of upper body strength work. As such the session contained a lot of polo strokes, swimming with bands and paddles. It was an interesting session and a different one.
I chose to do the swim at Fremantle pool, which has just reopened after refurbishment, rather than the river. I went with the pool rather than the river since at the moment I have a rule about swimming in the river in anything less than neoprene. A wetsuit would have made the river pleasant, but would have sort of defeated the purpose of the session. Plus it was nice to be in a pool again after the last couple of swims in the river.
My other main activity of the day was going shopping to take advantage of anything that is being cleared post Easter. Shopping did raise an interesting philosophical question though, which was just how many hot cross buns is too many? Is there such a thing as too many? Tonight we may find out.
