Run Day

Double run day today. I haven't had one of those for a while, certainly not since I hurt my back. It always makes for a solid day of training, leading to some good miles over the course of the day. Today's double run isn't as demanding as some I have done, but just the act of having to back up again in the afternoon is usually challenge enough. Still I am half way through, having run this morning. So far so good.

Running this morning felt pretty okay. Certainly better than this time last week, when I was still recovering from the Shoalwater Olympic. The session I was doing this morning was similar to last Tuesday, but the two sessions could not have been more different. Today the running just felt a bit easier and a bit more like it used to. Certainly much quicker than last week. That was all very welcome.

The back is still a little sore during running. Well not usually during the actual running bit, but usually once I have stopped. But it isn't much pain, and it doesn't seem to get in the way when I run, so I can work with it. So far this morning it seems to have pulled up okay, enough that I am confident of being able to run this afternoon.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week and I have a fairly solid week ahead of me. The last one before Busselton. It is a bit of a daunting week if I am to be honest, I have some aboslute killer sessions coming up later in the week. But it is a week that I think is necessary. At the moment, on my road back to race fitness, I am still noticing gains every few sessions. At this stage a week of solid training will have benefits come race day. I am still not where I would like to be heading into a fast race like Busselton, but every session I am getting a little bit closer. Hopefully in two weeks time I can get pretty close. It doesn't sound like much time, but I have been surprised before at how much difference two weeks can make.

With that in mind, bring on this afternoon.
