A little less uggghhhh

Another run today, and I have to say the experience was slightly more enjoyable that on Tuesday. The run was tougher, further and faster, but my body felt a bit more up to it, so it all kind of balanced out.

Today's run was a return of the long interval running session. For those who can't be bothered trawling through past posts to figure out what a long interval running session is, it is a session where you do a number of longer intervals (well duh) in this case 3km long. It is a pretty tough session, but a great lead up session, since it focuses on getting your legs moving fast over a sustained effort.

Today, the pieces went okay.

I was a bit scared going in since I know it is a hard session and I wasn't sure how my body was going to react. However, Daryl had set realistic goals for the session and with that in mind I headed out. I would love to say the pieces were blindingly fast, but that would not be true. They were quicker than the goals, and not disappointingly slow, but not as fast as I have done for this session in the past. But then I wasn't really expecting them to be. The lead up I had to those fast sessions and today's session are vastly different. I am not too worried, it would be nice to be going as quick, but you have to crawl first on the rebuilding road. In my experience you regain speed with these sessions pretty fast. The race last weekend showed me that the basics are there, now is just a case of building on that. Today's run was about that building.

During the running my back, hip flexor etc certainly felt a lot better than they did on Tuesday, so that was a big relief. In fact they felt pretty close to okay during the session. It was just the rest of me that was hurting.

Last night it was a solid session on the bike. I am happy with how that one went. The focus of the session was cadence controlled intervals and I was surprised at how good they felt. Really forcing myself to keep the cadence down felt good and I was managing the goal power levels pretty easily. I was surprised.

Another spin tonight, but this one will be shorter and easier. Looking forward to it, because it will signal the end of the week and the start of a 4 day weekend. Hooray.

Tomorrow I even have a sleep in coming up. The only training I have on the schedule for tomorrow is swimming and since the pools will be closed I will be doing it down in the river. I sure as hell am not swimming in the river in the dark, so I don't really have a choice but to sleep in and wait for the sun to come up. Plus in the interest of not freezing to death it will be a wetsuit swim. All up it should be a pleasant start to the day and a pleasant start to a looooong weekend.
