As planned I got another run under my belt last night. This time getting an hour of running done. This morning I seem to have pulled up fine. Very happy.
Still not out of the woods though, running is not pain free and I am still quite cautious around certain activites, like running down hill. But every run is a step in the right direction. Off to the phyiso today to hopefully confirm what I am feeling, ie that I haven't done any damage.
Whilst my back has been fine, I have pulled up sore in other areas, like my calves etc, all the usual sore running muscle groups. I think it is just my bodies way of reminding me that I haven't run for a while. Welcome back!!!
This morning it was off to the pool. Another chilly morning, with this morning being the first of the year for there to be steam rising off the pool. Only a little bit, but still, when you are stripping off and jumping into water, a little bit of cold is is enough.
It was a good swim, a whole bunch of 100s that went well in the end. Swimming form feels like it is slowly returning. No big spectacular song and dance, but my times in training seem to be gradually improving back to where they should be which is nice. Every few sessions we will do a piece where I will surprised by the time. It might be slow, but all progress is good progress.
Out on to the bike tonight for a bit of a spin. Friday afternoon rides used to be normal, but they fell away during Ironman training, so I haven't done one for a while. It sounds like the worst thing in the world, to get to the end of the working week and then have to head out and train before the weekend begins. But I remember now that I used to find it to be a great way to finish the week. I remember that I used to really enjoy my Friday afternoon ride because it gave me a bit of time to disconnect from the work week and get my brain into weekend mode. It is never good to find yourself heading into Friday night/Saturday morning still thinking about work, very distracting. I have found that this is a good way of stopping that. I haven't decided on a route yet. I am torn between my same old usual and perhaps heading somewhere different, maybe towards the coast or something. I will see what I feel like once I am on the bike. Might see what the winds are doing. Hopefully nothing at all. That would be nice.
Tomorrow I am running again. This time the aim is 70 minutes. That will depend a little on what the physio says this afternoon. I am being very mindful of not trying to do too much too quickly, or too hard, but at the same time it is great to feel like I am starting to train properly again. Bit of a balancing act. I think 70 minutes will be okay, but I will have to make sure I keep a lid on the intensity.
See how it goes in the morning.
