Back in the Saddle

Well I finally got hold of, and fitted, a new seat for my training bike.

I haven't actually had a ride on it yet. But it looks good, which is important, obviously. It certainly fits in with the rest of the bike a bit better than the interim white seat I have been using. I will probably give the new seat a bit of a try out in the morning. Hopefully it feels as good as it looks.

Training today has so far consisted of a long run. About 30km to be precise. I am pretty tired now. The run went well. The idea was to include a bit of cross-country, sand etc, plus a few quicker kms. I only managed to get a little bit of sand in, but I did manage to include quite a lot of grass and a couple of shorter trails. Changing the running surfaces was a good way to break the run up a bit. It certainly helped the kms pass a quicker. Running for that long can get a bit dull, but changing the conditions helped keep it interesting, so that was a real benefit. It still got tough in the last few kms, partly because I was getting tired, but also because that is where running surfaces got a bit trickier, with more sand and hills. But other than those last few kms the running felt good and was nice and consistent. I am particularly happy given that I was feeling pretty flat heading into the run. When I first got up I wasn't sure how I was going to get through it, but once I got going it felt fine.

I also had my concerns about the temperature today. Today has been a pretty warm day in Perth, getting up to 37 or 38 degrees. I wasn't keen to be out running once it got warm. I managed to head out early enough to avoid it though. It was warming up by the time I finished, but it still would have been below 30 degrees. Even though it wasn't too hot, I still jumped straight in the river after I finished, which felt very nice indeed.

The run this morning was also a good tick in the box for the Mizuno Wave Inspires. This is by far the longest run I have done in the new shoes and they passed with flying colours. So that was great to see.

I still have a short ride to get through this afternoon (when did 40km become a 'short' ride??), which my legs are not feeling particularly enthused about. It is supposed to be an easy spin and I think for once it will be, I am not sure my legs have much more than that in them anyway.  I am just waiting for the temperature to come down into a slightly more reasonable range before heading out. It is currently somewhere between 30 and 35 degrees, depending on how close to the coast you are. So the temperature is on its way down. Slowly.

Not looking forward to tomorrow morning. I have a medical in the morning for work which I have to fast for. I hate missing breakfast. Oh well, pretty sure I should survive.
