Merry Christmas

So that was Christmas. Come and gone for another year. It was a pretty good day in our house, although also a pretty flat out one. My Christmas score was, started the day at 73.5kg and finished it at 76.5kg. Not bad going.

Nothing really happened on the training front today. I had plans for a quick spin, but they never really got off the ground. My day started around 5:30am and has only really just finished at 8:00pm. But sometimes other things have to take priority and being around for my daughters Christmas morning was one of those things.

Still I have plenty of time over the next few days and so I am fairly confident of making the session up.

Training yesterday was an interesting experience, and by interesting I mean terrible. It really did end up being one of the toughest sessions I have done for a while, but annoyingly I think it was mostly self inflicted. Yesterday I had three hours on the bike followed by 30 minutes of running. The plan was to take the bike to work and then ride home. I think because yesterday was a work day and so my routine was slightly unusual I didn't really think it through, but whatever the reason, I didn't take any nutrition with me. A three and a half hour session on just water, I don't have to tell you, not a good idea. On top of that it was a really tough ride. An hour of hills and then two hours of riding. However the majority of that two hours was working my way home into a 25km/h head wind. By the time I got home I was exhausted. My average speed for the ride was low, but I would have been interested to know what my power reading was. I suspect it would not have been low. Once I got home I was really tempted to not head out on the run since I was feeling so shattered. But I also knew I had to test my hamstring, so I headed out. Man I really smashed into that wall. I managed to hold my target time, but it was a struggle to do so. I am not reading to much into the session though. I am pretty sure what I was feeling was a major bonk due to lack of fuel. Oh well, we all make mistakes.

Speaking of power though, I picked up my replacement Garmin Vector pod from Churchill yesterday (well more accurately my wife picked it up) and today I successfully installed it without breaking anything. As far as I am aware the pedals are now are correctly installed and torqued up etc. Hopefully I will get out for a ride tomorrow to test them out.

Also tomorrow will be another big test for my hamstring. The run yesterday went okay I think. The leg felt tender, but I had no acute pain. I never felt that comfortable, but I don't think that was necessarily due to my hamstring. Tomorrow will be another bit of a test, so I will see how it goes. If everything goes to plan tomorrow will be a return to a bit of sand running and intervals. I haven't done that sort of thing for a while, so it will be interesting to see how I pull up. Last time I did it was the middle of winter and most of the run was in the dark. Tomorrow should be very different, hopefully a lot nicer and a lot less tripping over seaweed and falling on my face. Fingers crossed.

Merry Christmas everyone.
